Happy New Year! We enjoyed a much needed break over the festive period and hope you did too. We kick off 2026 with the fantastic news that we received planning permission for a major extension and retrofit in Iffley Village, Oxford. As a modestly sized bungalow built in the late 1950s with a generous garden, the site has huge potential. Our client’s family have outgrown their home and are not only in need of more space, they’re looking for a high quality, highly comfortable house, with a contemporary design.

Following exploration of a demolition and new build, it was decided that this was not only too costly, but highly disruptive, wasteful, and complex due to the sloping site and ground conditions. Instead, we’ve chosen to remove the roof, add a new storey, extend to the rear and side, and offer a deep retrofit to vastly improve energy efficiency and thermal comfort. With a simple yet high quality palette of materials, along with carefully designed expanses of high performance glazing, this revitalised home will feel like a new house.

Now to press on with stage 4 technical design to produce a set of drawings and documentation for building regs compliance and construction. Get in touch if you’d like to work with a specialist architect to transform your home, whatever size it is.
